Motor ran fine and then just quit running.
No spark is the problem.what should I look for?
1999- 115 Johnson V-4 looper
compression 120 in all 4 cyl. spark tested all 4, nothing.
cleaned grounds and checked all visable fuses.

Same problem I have.

It is going to be either the stator, the timer base or the power pack.

Best bet is to get a manual and start testing.

You are going to need a Peak Voltage tester or a meter with a DVI to test all the components.

What part of FL you in? I just bought one. If you are close I might come help test.

Check the emergency kill switch and the ignition switch. The kill wire is black and yellow and runs to the power pack. You need to be sure that it is not grounding out when you don't want it to. If you don't have a wiring diagram, you need one.

Does this motor have optical ignition? I think it does...sensor known to go on these...I'm a yamaha tech but I own an '01 Johnson 90 Ocean Runner....think you have same ignition....still waiting for mine to go out...hope that's whats wrong with yours, as it's the cheapest option by far....can do it yourself

Disconnect the main harness plug in the engine compartment and jump the starter out. Then see if it has spark....

Re: stranded 1 mile out today

Checked kill wire at ign. switch, pulled it and still no spark.
Checked resistance at stator from brn to brn/yellow 1055 ohms.
Checked org to org/blk only 55 ohms not 100 like called for.
Still waiting for someone to come by and help with voltage reading.
none of the timer base wire colors are what they call for?????So I dont know where or what that looks like. Diagram does not label it so I'm lost on that one.

Re: stranded 1 mile out today

Go back and follow Rick's suggestion. Seperate the boat wiring from the motor wiring. Then check spark.

Re: stranded 1 mile out today

I could not get any voltage reading out of the stator. I used the same wires as ohm reading.Hope I did that right.
