So, I just bought a 9.9 evinrude for a decent deal in pretty good condition but not quite running. Anyways, the it was advertised as a 1975, and the model number, 10524C, confirms that wherever I look. The funny part is this motor has CDI ignition, power pack on the side, flywheel labeled cd ignition, etc. Now, nothing I can find online/ on any of the forums suggests that the motor came off of a factory line like this so I figured there are a few possibilities.
1. Mabey some previous owner didn't like the points and decided to get a bunch of CDI parts together and convert it. I doubt this is true because it looks like all of the mounting stuff lines up perfect to the power head, and all of the wiring looks pretty factory, but I will take a closer look when I get home.
2. At some point someone swapped the entire power head with one from a CDI motor, maybe in the process of a 15hp conversion??
My question is what do you guys think is most likely, or what should I do to figure out what is up with it? Or does anyone know of any motors that were produced as such with that model number?
Thanks!
