Strange aluminum sleeve in outdrive.

Well I bought a new to me 1983 Sea Ray SRV225 about two weeks ago. Boat seemed to be in good shape over all except for some minor idle problems. An Edelbrock 1409 took care of that in short order. I took it out last Sat for the first time, and unfortunately, the gimbal bearing took this opportunity to die...violently. After a two day ordeal, I finally got it back onto the trailer and got her home. I pulled the outdrive, and removed the debris. I finally got the rest of the bearing out, but noticed a lot of damage to the surrounding aluminum on the transom mount around the bearing housing. There also seemed to be a bunch of old 5200 around the outside of the housing. When I pulled some the 5200 off, I noticed a little set screw holding the piece of damaged aluminum in place. The more I got into it, I realized that the housing itself isn't damaged, just this aluminum sleeve, that I don't think is even supposed to be there. I looks like it was put on so that they could fit the bellows on easier. Is this supposed to be there? Has anyone else seen this before? Thoughts?

Wow...A little JB weld and some duct tape and you'll be as good as new! I believe the term "catastrophic failure" applies.

5200 wont fix that, replacement housing is in order.

Looks like it was run while the drive was tilted full up.

New gimbal houseing is the ONLY fix. There is no repair for that mess.
