Well I had a bunch of stuff happen to this motor and now acquired a ringing noise. I chased down a water problem, replaced a few gaskets and the water grommet and now that's good. I hit a stump in a lake and broken the inside sleeve of the prop, a little ahead of where the shear pin goes in. Now it was a used prop and it may have already been cracked, but it broke all the way. When I had the lower end off to do the grommet, the lower end felt stiff. I happen to have picked up another one as a back up, and put that on. Water is good, but I am hearing a ringing noise I didn't hear before. It was getting tough to start, poor spark so I just put a new coil pack on. It has bright spark and starts good, runs good, but what the heck it this ringing noise. I took a hearing hose to it trying to find where the noise it strongist, and the crank area is the clearest sound. It's a consistent bell like ring that raises a little with rpms. Didn't have it before the change of lower ends, and I can't say for sure if the sound is traveling from the lower end. The top of the old and new(used) lower end drive shaft has a little slot for an o-ring right below the fins, I didn't have an o-ring that fit and the old unit didn't have one. Not thinking that would make a ring if missing, but thought I'd say it. When I had the fly wheel off to replace the coil I didn't see anything lose or broken.
Any thoughts? I can try to video it.
