I have a Johnson 120hp (J120TLCCA) that i just bought with a boat. when i connect the muffs to it water squirts out of 2 small holes on the stbd side of the lower unit, at first i thought these holes were some type of damage but there is paint on the inside surface of the holes so i think they are supposed to be there. what are they for, and is this normal for this model? if not how do i correct it. the engine seems to run great and goes into fwd and rev. with no trouble. I have not checked the gear oil yet as i cant get the the fill/drain or vent plugs out.

Ya, you will find water comes out of an outboard everywhere.

The first time I changed my water pump and ran mine on muffs I was sure I ruined the engine cause water was coming out everywhere but it is normal.

If you don't have an imapct driver use a big scew driver and tap the handle with a hammer as you turn it, does the same thing, make sure you use a screw driver that is as wide as the plug, you do not want to strip that out.
