Strange water leak

87 mercruiser 5.0

I have been havering water leaking in the transom of my boat.today I filled up the inside of the boat with water and it came out of the exhaust hole or that is or the water return hole.im not sure what it is but why is it leaking their? Need some help.

That's the idle relief hole. If you have water coming from there when you have water INSIDE the hull, the exhaust Y-pipe 'o' ring is leaking, or the pipe or housing where the pipe bolts up to is corroded and leaking. Either way, the drive needs to come off and the engine out.

If you leave it, it will get worst, and quickly.

Well I've noticed when it's in the water it comes from the plate on the transom that is flat against the back.ive fixed so many leaks on this boat smh.... I thought it was ready but I guess it never will be.this is starting on year number 2.....I wonder if I get some bad a@& sealer and put around the outside of the plate I can get by one fishing trip to see if the boat is worth it?

Ayuh,.... If the y-pipe has a hole in it, slatherin' glue 'round the transom assembly ain't gonna fix anything,...

Not if that isn't where the leak is...

The y pipe I don't think is leaking but it's coming from the transom eons where the lean is. The y pipe is on tope of the motor correct? I'm confused

Ayuh,... You saw water comin' outa the exhaust idle relief port,...

That says the exhaust pipe, aka: the y-pipe is leakin',...
It could be loose bolts where it attaches to the transom housin',...
It could have a hole in it from long gone shutter parts,...
It could be corroded where it connects to the transom housin',...
