Hello,

I've been an avid fishermen for several years, and I finally bought a boat. i bought a 04 VIP baystealth, with a 90 merc. The boat runs great and I love it. However, there are several small (ranging from 1/2-4 inch) stress cracks on the boat deck, in the rear of the boat. I'm just curious as to if this is serious, and what is the best way to repair these stress cracks to make the eye sore go away (or is it worth it?

Thanks,
Chris

depends on where in the rear. pics would help although rot in a 4 y/o is rare.

Re: Stress cracks on deck

it will take me a few days to get pics (my camera is actually being repaired) but the cracks are in the rear of the boat, on both the right and left sides, maybe 2 feet from the rear of the boat on both sides, they are not large. On one of the cracks it loks as if the previous owner had tried to cover it with some kind of apoxy. The rest of the boat is in great shape, no cracks on outside or anything like such.

Re: Stress cracks on deck

Are the stress cracks inside or outside the boat?
They could be caused by production (by manufacturing method), let's say it is just bad machining.
Are the cracks near by fittings like cleats or something else like screws?

Maybe these cracks are the results of excessive loads on the body, so you have to analyze the cracks exactly.

the cracks are on the inside of the boat, on the deck floor, in the rear. Not near a cleat or aynthing, in the middle of the floor.
