Is $1500 for a brand new in box, never used lower for a Stringer 800 mechanical a good price? Guy claims it was bought new last year and has receipt to prove it.

You can get them for less on Ebay if you shop around. Of course they are always used and without warranty. Its, of course, up to you whether or not to trust the seller and their description.

Is your current one not repairable? Whats wrong with it? The folks over at sterndrive.info will repair lowers for around $500 with basic parts. OMC 800 series lower gearcase repair cost

When I had my stringer on my Glastron SSV I always had problems with the tilt. You had to press the raise button about a half dozen times to get it to raise. That was probably a faulty switch or just a too big of a voltage drop to pull the solenoid in. It also had a nasty habit of breaking the tilt drive shaft. I think I fixed that once I disassembled the clutch, polished up the steel plates and removed some shims so it would actually slip once at the top of travel. I also keep that tilt gear case full of grease, not engine oil.

I also have the complete drive available if anyone is in need.

Welcome aboard fisherphil!

You'll probably wanna' start a new thread in the OMC forum, 'cuz this one is for hydro-mechanical, and mechanical shift guys. We electric shift folks have to have a visitor's pass in this thread :D

Your issue has several possibilities. When you post in the new thread, let us know your engine HP - also, do you have a manual? You're going to need to check the voltage at your shift wires (port side, just in front of the intermediate housing) and the manual will tell you how to do that.

Just a bump to show what I've been working on lately. New motor. Also a shout out to any new passers by that want to join the group.
