i have a 15 foot Starcraft american. The transom is 1 1/2” thick stringers are 1” thick eveything is marine grade plywood and I’m using west system epoxy.

for my transom I have 6 oz cloth and 6 oz tape tabbing it in already. For my stringers I was going to tab them in with 6 oz cloth. I know I should use more fibreglass but how much more should I go on
my stringers and transom my options are 12oz or 18oz 1700 biaxial and 6 oz cloth any suggestions? (Also have a roll of csm but I’ve gathered I shouldn’t use that with epoxy)

On my stringers, I tabbed everything with two layers of 6oz, then came back and sealed them up with one layer of 17oz Double Bias. Except for in the compartments, where I laid two layers of 6oz, one layer of 17oz tabbing, then two giant sheets of 17oz over the entire compartment up over the stringers.

Anyway, I'd use the 1700 to cover everything, one layer might be sufficient but I'm sure someone else will chime in with more advice!

Probably is enough with epoxy, but if you have enough 12oz I would do both layers with 12oz. Also, many have failed badly trying to go all the way up and over including me. I would run up both sides to the top and then do a seperate piece to cap the stringer ( you could use 1 layer of 6oz for that.

Seconding what Mad Props said, I had the exact same issue. You'll have a very hard time getting the cloth w/ epoxy wrapped over the top, it'll likely bubble up at the top and the sides around the top, no matter how much you baby it. You'll have a much easier time doing what he said, which is what I did as well. (Only I didn't glass the top of the stringers at all, I epoxied the bare wood directly to the underside of my deck, which was itself covered in 12oz of fiberglass.)

Your proposed layup will work. I agree that going over the top is NOT easy but is doable IF you Pre-crease the fabric so it will conform better. Even then it takes a LOT of Babysitting to ensure you don't develop air pockets or lifting of the fabric. I agree that a separate Top cap is a better way. with epoxy it's NOT as critical as with Poly. 2-3 coats of epoxy alone will adequately seal the tops of the stringers. No glass needed
