Stringer/Foam question

I have a 89 Citation boat. Is it possible that I have no stringers under my floor and just foam? Also, my foam under the deck always seems to be wet. How can this be? I thought foam didn't absorb water? Either way, she's due for a new floor soon.

Re: Stringer/Foam question

BG! Glad to see you're still with us. Got worried that you were overwelmed by the boat gremlins and left us. I've been having gremlin problems myself (starter stops working...remove and test...works...re-install..works???? *sigh* etc etc etc).

Now for your question. I have heard that some boats were made with foam-core stringers???? Maybe yours was one of them. Closed cell foam SHOULD not absorb water..but once the cells' integrity is compremised then basically you have a sponge. The foam used (on the older boats atleast) would eventually absorb water if in constant contact with it. Someone (Mark42???) has stated repeatedly that they have 2-part closed cell foam floating in a bucket of water for 2 years now with no signs of water penetration...so maybe the newer stuff is better?

I am sure someone will be by to correct all my errors and head you in th correct direction.

-JMW

Re: Stringer/Foam question

Hey JMW - You are everywhere :) Good news...I got the old girl running this past weekend. Very encouraged. Also, the outdrive hasn't leaked any more oil, so I'm hoping it was the awkward winter storing position. Next summer will be the floor project if I decide to keep her.

BTW - I had the "nothing but clicking" problem with the starter. Gave the batteries a fresh charge and she started right up.
