Looks like a lot of work. What are you trying to achieve that you can't get with traditional plywood/glass/drain holes?

Re: Stringer idea whatta you think???

bond-o-I think when there are so many posts people son't see my project.I posted some questions for ideas and nobody commented on them.I'm piece milling my boat so i thought i could do that here too. Just kidding... I just need some advice to get going on this thing.I've got the boat down to the hull and need to design a stringer system.

Mark42-Well i just it would be easier buying the pieces in standard widths and lengths instead of making stringers out of plywood. Also between each bulkhead i want to add drainage so water doesn't get trapped anywhere. Instead of just two drain pipes down the center i want to add it between the cross members. The pipe would be incased in the foam at it's lowest level. Is that not a good idea.I also want to make the hull stronger.the original hull and no keel board and just a little strip in the bow tabbed in.However i don't want a lot of weight. The hull is a 67 larson all-american deep v.

thoughts ideas please

over engineered?
It looks like the frameword for a fabric covered airplane.

My perspective is merely one based on astute design borne of laziness.

I like the pipe being used to drain water away from the foam. you might think about not using foam at all.

Just make sure there are holes drilled the the cross members at the bottom, to allow water thru, back to the bilge.

Paint each piece of wood with resin, right before instalation, for water proofing, and to glue them in place.

Use a cardboard mold to get the exact shape of the wood right.

Yep, so you go and post a new topic, making it even more cluttered for you and others. Not the best way to improve a bad situation.

It's in people's nature to filter what they read on the main page. When your topic isn't seeing the activity you think it should, it's usually because the title isn't attractive enough. People filter the topics and go in the ones that seem appealing to them. Marketing companies have been hitting and missing for ages. Maybe you missed the mark on your other thread.

This message board offers you the option to change the title of your topic. If you press "Edit" on the first post you made in your thread, you can change the subject to something more appealing and you will see more activity going on.

Sorry, I'm off topic.

I don't have any pics of it but the guy from Canada who bought my OMC drive made a steel tube frame like a dragster for his stringers. He only glassed the bottom rail to the hull said it saved him a ton of resin.
My current project(deck and stringers) is going back together the way it came from the factory. I'm not overbuilding or overthinking it. It lasted 20 years with the PO leaving it in the lake during the summer so it should do atleast that with me covering it.

makes the 4 2x4 and 1 2x6 kiln dried lumber glassed stringers in my boat seem so.....simple. lol. i like your idea, seems like overkill though. just my 2 cents worth.

If you plan to use foam, then all of the holes and piping won't do anything, the foam seals everything as it expands. For the water to drain the foam can't be stuck to the stringers or hull, there needs to be a gap leaving a space for the water to travel through.

I read somewhere in the post, one of the member use sheet of close foam (red in color) and cut them to size and file out the empty spaces. Looks like a good idea. Water will not saturate the foam but run off the side and into the drainage pipe.

Re: Stringer idea whatta you think???

My other concern, although built very well and solid is weight.I will be adding several hundred pounds if i continue down this path.Is my old 80 HP evinrude gonna push this thing and get it on plain or will the bow nose down into the water.Originally it only had foam filled stringers and maybe 4 cross braces. Not much weight at all.Anyone have any lightweight cheap alternatives no welding involved and no nida-core?

Ayuh,... Glass in some 1/2" plywood like in your picture, cap it with the deck,+ call it a day...
