Ok well I cut open the rear stringer where the motor mounts go in my boat because rot I cut the fiberglass shell from the top and 3/4 of the side to expose the rotted wood or should I say dust. Is it possible to grind and clean the channel where the wood was and put new wood in with epoxy and new glass.

Re: stringer question

IMHO, you will get much better and more consistent responses if you would stay with one thread. You started your rebuild thread back in December of 2011 but have since posted to 2-3 separate threads on various topics concerning your project. It's very hard for you to get good consistent feedback using this method here on the forum. It's a forum recommendation but, as I said, it's my opinion and you are free to do as you wish. As for your question, yes you can do it that way, Is ist recommended... No!!! You should cut out all the old glass, grind down to fresh glass and re fabricate the motor mount and tab it into the hull with new glass.

Re: stringer question

it can be done, but even with epoxy.....it will still be weak.

the trouble is that to insert wood into the channel, you cannot clean the channel or assure your self a proper airless bond.
if major air gets in there......condensation will form.....and you are back at squair one.....cutting a rot stringer !

Re: stringer question

Thank you. To be honest I think I get a faster response to a question when I just put it in the subject. But I do understand that I would get better answers if I would stay on one thread.
