I wasn't suggesting that you do a pour in transom only that chainsaws do, at times have a place, in boat restoration. It's always and individual decision. Any power tool can be a dangerous thing if not handled properly. It's always a personal decision and each of us have to decide what our limitations are.

Hey WOG and sphelps Chill out. A freaking chainsaw blade on a grinder for a newb, give me a break..
I never suggested using the chainsaw blade on a grinder . But if ya did make sure you have the guard in place . Your fingers would be mighty close . A lot closer than a chainsaw . You were the one that said a chainsaw had no business in any boat repair . If anyone should chill ...well.. ya get my point.
I did the grinder and chisel thing till I was blue in the face . It works but it's very slow . I cleaned out in 10 mins what it would have taken many hours to do .
All I'm saying is don't knock it till ya try it . Smile:)

I am very capable with most power tools. Been around then my whole life. I'm new to boat restoration. Big difference in grinding fiberglass and grinding metal like I am used to. I went to Home Depot tonight and gotta set of chisels and a plastic mallet. I'm gonna use my oscillating dremel to cut and my chisels to remove them. I can see how using a chainsaw on the transom would work because you can see how deep to go. This is a very narrow space I will be cutting in. I'll be sure to take some pictures tomorrow.

I really do appreciate the advice guys. Y'all have been a tremendous help. The chiseling is slow but I'm okay with that. Or at least I am now. Might not be on the next restoration I tackle. I'm currently battling another crisis. I just discovered a hole in my hull. It's not very big but it's a nonetheless

Holes and or cuts are NOT a big deal. They happen all the time in restorations and are easy to fix. When the time comes for the repair we'll go over the details with you and you'll discover just how easy it is.

Air chisel air chisel air chisel. I cant talk enough about how much help my air chisel was.

Grind the chisel to the same width as the wood you want to remove and it will make short work of it. It will also be a tremendous help removing the wood from the transom.

I bought an extra chisel then cut the end off. I then welded a piece of .250 thick x 4" wide steel to the end and sharpened it like a really wide chisel. It enabled me to remove really really large chunks from the transom or any tabbing that wasnt installed properly to begin with.

Don't have any pictures of the hole. I'll be sure to get y'all some tomorrow. Been working on getting a video going of the restoration for YouTube. What do y'all think about that?

holy crap that is the craziest thing i have ever seen. When I was removing my stringers I cut myself numerous times just using my cut off wheel. I wouldnt have any fingers left if I had used that.
Thanks for the belly laugh! My HF 4-1/2 " grinder has the suicide on/off switch, stupid idea. Cut-off wheel grabbed, it got away from me, broke the wheel and flung the grinder with broken wheel to my knee. Almost needed stitches. When I do precision cuts I tend to loosen my grip on the grinder; not any more.

Posting pics on iboats is simple and easy when you use photobucket:

They come out nice and big and no one has to be redirected to Farcebook. Not everyone is a member of Farcebook, nor do we care to leave iboats to see something that can be posted here easily.

I am aware that most of you hate the Facebook idea but until I can get all of my pictures uploaded to Photobucket, that's all I can offer. Please be patient I am working on it. I have completed a "Walk Around" video of the restoration which includes my idea, my progress and an overall showing of the boat and trailer. I will post the link to the video once it has uploaded to YouTube. One Click and you'll be able to see my entire project. I am not trying to bug y'all with Facebook or talk you into it. It's just how I operate.

Once it stops raining I will get a picture of the hole. Hope these help.
