Stringer replacement

Replacing the floors on a 1986 Glastron tri hull. After ripping out the old floors and foam I realized that the stringer that runs down the middle was rotted. The string was like wrapped with some kind of fiberglass or something and inside the wood was pretty much dust. I was able to take out the dust but how do I replace that stringer. Just open that fiberglass case and put a new piece of wood inside? How do I attached it to the hull?

Also, I have read that you can use some sort of Home Depot pink styrofoam to replace the foam that was under the floor in between the stringers. Can anyone tell me what foam it is specifiically. Would like to drop a new floor in if possible.

I dunno if it's worth it to ya or not, but if you're able to get all of the wood out of that stringer then you could mix up a batch of Sea Cast http://www.transomrepair.com or some other composit and literally pour it into the glassed mould that is left behind.

Then you'd simply glass over the top and you'd be all set!

cut the old stringer out,grind old glass out till you get clean hull,bed new stringer,fillet it then re-glass to hull.not as hard as it sounds,I was intimidated at first,but it's not hard.

Do you just screw the plywood down to the fiberglassed stringers with like exterior deck screws??

Stringer installation involves cutting out the old stringer, building a new core, bonding it to the hull with either PL Premium adhesive or a peanut butter mix of resin, glass and cabosil, then glassing it to the hull for strength and to seal it away from the elements.
