I posted before and got help with this butt.. Stringer 800 ... I can shift into gear easy. It is difficult to get out and into neutral and easy to past neutral and into reverse. Could this be the ESA and how would i find out ? where is the ESA ?
Thanks

Re: Stringer shift

The ESA is on a bracket down beside the exhaust manifold on most, but looking at it will tell you nothing. It's a big puck of epoxy. With the engine running in neutral, depress the 2 switches on the shift converter with your finger 1 at a time.
1 of them should make the engine stumble and almost stall. If that happens, the ESA works. If that doesn't happen you have a faulty ESA or wiring problem. If the ESA works and you still have trouble getting to N, then switch and cable adjustment is in order. Follow the manual step by step.

Re: Stringer shift

Shift converter is located at the back of the engine. The switches are located on top. See the black arrow and the white arrow. Start in neutral as mentioned, push in the little tip of the switch and see if the engine stumbles. Test each switch. It they both cause this (stumble) then the cable is out of adjustment like mentioned. The ESA and micro switches are fine.

Re: Stringer shift

The white arrow stumbles the motor and I believe the black arrow turns the ESA or stumble mode off once in gear.
