Jerry,<br /><br />The "stringer" drives were from OMC. They adjusted trim by raising or lowering the front of the engine by a device mounted to the boats stringers (longitudinal boards runninng the length of the boat).
Or ,more likely, that name came from the fact that this drives shift mechanism is operated by 2 cables and a series of pulleys.Not all stringers had Select Trim.
