I'm looking to buy a new Stringray Cabin cruiser 250CS next spring. I've read the Stringray forum. It will be my first boat.

It will be used for cruising the Great Lakes here in New York and then it will retire with me to North Carolina and the Intracoastal Waterway.

I've looked at Winn, Larson, Chaparelle and others, too expensive.

Any thoughts on this boat? Good, bad? I need your opinions. Some people say buy a used boat as the first one. Isn't that like buying a used car and possibly getting someone else's problems?

Thanks.

RubberFrog got a new one last season, same model. You might try a PM or poke around Dockside Chat. He's on here almost everyday and I haven't heard him say anything but great things.

Re: Stringray Cabin Cruisers 250CS

I have the 250cs with 5.0mpi.

Pros:
The hull is very fast and it gets on plane fast. Even faster since I put on a four blade prop.
It does great pulling skiers and tubers.
The cockpit is enormous.
The seating layout makes it easy to have 6 people on board without being crowded.
Tons of storage space!
The swim platform is ginormous!
I make everybody use the handheld shower to rinse off before entering the boat (keeps the inside clean).
The cabin is nice and "roomy"- for a cuddy.
The rear of the cockpit turns into a very spacious bed. The wife and I sleep their exclusively now and let the kids have the cabin. Makes for a great night of bom-chicky-bow-now under the stars....

Cons:
The anchor locker is tiny. This may just be me, because I like to keep a big anchor with ten feet of chain and 300 feet of rode.
It rides a little rough in choppy water. This may be subjective depending on what you call chop. I suppose a fast hull is a trade off for a smooth rider....
I had a few fit and finish issues the first year, although my dealer took care of everyone of them.
Those are the only three things I don't like about it.

For me, it was the best boat for the money. There will always be nicer boats, faster boats, and smoother boats no matter what you buy. I had a price range I was looking in and this was the best boat for me.

I too will be moving to Wilmington and the ICW in just a few years!
