striped screw on fuel pump and rebuild questions

I am starting to rebuild my fuel pumps and I have run into a stripped screw on the inside under the diaphragms. Also I am looking at the new Diaphragms that I just bought and it has a grey one in there that is not on my old pumps.. What is it should I only use the 3 that are on it already? and do I need to lube the stuff as I am putting it back on???

With cowl off have someone move throttle and see if carb butterfly opens, if not check linkage between where cable joins engine and carbs. If all is good, then it is most likely a broken cable or something not right in the control box.

no no I am talking about inside the fuel pump.. there is a T plate over the valves with two small screws holding it in.. One of the small screws is stripped out.. I also need to know if i need to lubricate the gaskets before I install them and put the valves back into place?

Sorry!! I have the wrong post for that answer. you do not have to lubricate. can you repair the stripped screw hole by tapping it again?

Being that the screw is striped out you can take some JB Weld and put it in the threaded hole , then retap it to the needed size inorder to get the screw to hold. Use a old style flat toothpick to put the JB into the hole just where the threads should be and not the complete hole. If you donot have a tap a selftapping screw of the correct size from a electrical box or one bought at a hardware can be used to clean and retap the hole. The diafram and gaskets do not need any thing put on them, as gas will just eat at it and cause more trouble.JMO

oh btw do I have to use some lock tight on the fuel hoses when reconnecting them to my fuel pumps?



in this picture you can see the distributer (picture thx to one on ebay that looks the same as mine) anyway there are the three screws on there and I am wondering if that is what my repair manual is calling the spark advance, idle and idle stop?? any ideas?

NO! Never locktight on alluminum, and yes those are the screws that act as stops for the settings of the timming and idle.

thanks.. My rebuild went good father in-law saved the day... and I didn't use locktight on it I asked my father about that too and he almost thumped me for even thinking such a notion
