Yeah , I'll end up getting a puller and torque wrench soon . My brother is a marine tech for the coast guard in Atlantic Beach ,NC I wish he lived closer. He has every tool just about known to man. Slowly over the years I have been building my collection. A torque wrench is pretty basic, so I should have one already but this would be a first time I needed a puller and didn't live near my brother. Well, I guess I am just a frugal guy :D ! Not cheap mind you but I like to spend my money where IO know it counts , tools alwasy pay for them selves in the long run so I can justify buying a specialty tool if it is for an interesting new hobby.

About painting : I have actually been reading alot about this lately ,especially using the roll and tip method with rustoleum on fiberglass boats. I have seen some amazing results and I am very crafty so I will prep 90% read 200% and paint 10% .If I am dissatisfied I can start over and am out not much money but I got a good feeling by what I have seen and what I have been reading here and around the net.

Funny thing TM I work as a graphic artist and use to do signs/ vinyl decals and still have access to a plotter. I am only missing the part that says "JOHNSON" on both sides of the decals and had many offers for very good shape cowlings from members here, Not sure what i am gonna do yet. But i am gonna two tone the motor to match the boat I am renovating if or better I say when I get her running. I daydream about that at work and it soothes my soul on some of the tough days! I got a good mental projection of just enjoying that first boat ride.... not to big a dream ,huh?

quagmire60 good luck , post us some pix of it when you get it , I am interested to see!

That's a great dream. You can do just about any decal if you have a decent digital image, jpeg file, etc., but you know that. Make a hit list of what you're gonna accomplish...go after the whole list one item at a time, and enjoy a refreshing beverage when you get that first day on the water with the J-son cranking out the revs.

Took a break to paint my boat and recently aquired a vintage motorcycle which is now running well ~ So back to this outboard!

I found this and am really thinking about getting it as it has electric start and would be dirt cheap!;)

Is this engine very similar to mine?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...06.m7&_trkparms=algo=LVI&its=K%2BD&otn=2&ps=5

it is a 1960 so I am thinking it just may be . Electric start to BIG BIG plus ! Looks very similar . I could alwasy run duals two just as a thought.

Whatch guys think?

It's a kissin' cousin to your Johnson, but it's not a 60-model. More like 62 or 63...the model number he posted is wrong, reverse the first two numbers of the model number to get the year and you get 53...which it ain't unless he put a early 60's cowl on a 53 Gale. But I don't think Gale made a 35 in 53. Hope you get it at a decent price...they are nice motors if well cared for. Twins would be cool...if you still need electric start on your Johnson post a wanted ad in the free classifieds at www.aomci.org
They reorganized that site recently...traffic fell off, but it's rebounding now.

Thanks TM, I will consider this . If I picked this up for a hundred bux or less I think it'd be a good deal if it the description was truthful. Just trying to find a starter ,toothed fly wheel and the other odds and ends to mkae mine an electric would esily tack up over what I could get that whole engine for easily. Either way I think it'd be a good deal. I also found this other Johnson closer to me here in NC ,it was a 33HP SeaHorse that looked like it might sell for under a hundred

If you had to pick between the two which would you chose?

also I know this is off topic but look at this cool old Lonestar I found!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/16-Lonestar-Johnson-Outboard-Boat-Motor-T133994_W0QQitemZ350148166478QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPower_Motorboats?hash=item350148166478&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=72%3A543|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318

this his opening price is really high but cool looking shwag.
