struck a rock and prop will not spin in gear

I hit a rock and the prop stopped spinning. Engine just revs. When I took the boat out of the water I did see damage to the prop. Prop spins freely in neutral. When I put the boat in gear the prop will spin with a little resistance I have a 2006 alpha 1 outdrive. I suspect I spun the hub. How can I confirm that? How difficult is it to replace?

Thanks

Put adjacent marks on the inner and outer hub of the prop and try it again. If they are no longer lined up it is spun. It will have to be re-hubbed by a prop shop.

is the prop spinning on the muffs when in gear?

you can confirm your hub is spun by drawing a line on the hub and prop and see if the are still aligned after you test it in the water

Edit : to late

will it spin in reverse? you should not be able to spin the prop when in gear, with the eninge off. Only the engine should be able to spin the prop when i gear.
If not a spun hub, it may be a bad forward or pinion gear. Check your lower unit plug magnet for metal shavings.

It will spin in forward and reverse while in gear. Engine off and spinning by hand. I am about to take off the prop. I will report back.

Just got prop off and the hub is spun. plastic all over the place. Just a point of interest that makes sense now. when i took the prop off I blocked it with wood but the shaft would spin around the prop I had to put it in forward to lock the shaft and get the prop nut off.

Thats interesting, I wouldn't have thought a sliped prop hub would just freespin as you describe, I wonder could the jar of hitting the rock have relieved the hub from it's pressed in state? Maybe just needs pressed back into it's seat?

I may have my terminology wrong. The Flo-Torq 11 drive hub, the part that the drive sleeve goes into is basically destroyed the splines that go into the drive sleeve are gone. Now my problem is getting the remainder of the flo-torq 11 drive hub out of the prop. I cannot push it out. Any suggestions?

Just take a screw driver or I also use a socket that is the same size as the hub cavity and take a hammer to it and the plastic sleeve will pop out.

replaced torq hub and all is fine. Spent a great day on the water towing and no problems. Did have a hard time removing the old torq hub. All the splines were gone and the prop has a plug built into it (to stop the torq hub in place) so that a socket will not help with the removal. I had to use a blow torch the melt the hub a little and then it came free.
