stuck in reverse!!! even when throttled forward ????

hey i'm new to the forum and finally have a problem to discuss, haha. I am running a 1990 bayliner capri, with a 4.3 mercruiser alpha one outdrive. I was out today, boat ran great until we stopped to have lunch. I started her up to return to my marina to find I couldnt shift into a forward gear. I tried to go into reverse and back to forward as i was told the gears could sometimes stick. Of couse this did nothing and now no matter which way I moved the throttle reverse, forward or even pulled for nuetral the boat powered backwards. Looking for any advice or even a place to start, I looked at the linkage in the boat, behind the motor and it seemed fine.

You need a lower shift cable
