I'm kinda reposting this since I've been doing some reading and have a better understanding of my problem.

I have a 1986 Johnson 150 that is stuck in S.L.O.W. mode. The alarm sounds steadily as soon as the key is turned on, BEFORE I turn the engine over. After reading several posts on this board I understand that S.L.O.W. mode should reset when the engine is stopped/started again. This is not the case here - my alarm goes off constantly. The engine cranks with no problem but is limited to about 2500 rpms.

Water pump is pumping as the motor pees like a champ.

Why is this engine stuck in this mode? What can I do? I'm beginning to think it may be a short - but where? Not too sure what to look for.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys - love the board....

Bill, Im not going to be much help.
Glad to see youve been doing some research.
If you have been reading from a ser. manual
way to go.If you dont have one GET ONE.
I have 2 for my motors and am going to get a 3rd.
they really make things much clearer.
Try the library,NAPA,tab at the top of this page,
amazon.com ,ebay. If you have deep pockets try
www.kencook.com.
Sorry Im not more help but Im pretty sure a
manual will help clear things up.

On some models..Disconnect the temp sender and then try it. Bad temp sensor can keep it in the slow mode. (Engine thinks its overheating)

Spike, Trent - Thanks for the replies, a manual is my next step as I'm not sure where the temp sender/sensor is located exactly...
