I'm trying to fly out from Newfoundland, Canada but all the flights are cancelled. They call it a Noreaster, I call it a pain in the butt. I'm trying to fly home and see my family. It's a two hour drive to the airport, in the storm, and an hour and a bit standing in line, first time flyer...ever. Not a great experience. And to make matters worse all the motels in town are booked up. I had to drive the 2 hours back home in the storm. Now, I'll be leaving in about 2:30 a.m around 5 hours from this post. Another 2 hours in the storm. I should say it's normally a 2 hour drive on dry roads. But considering the snow, desperately nervous drivers, snow plows, big rigs, it's more like 3 and a half hours. Blah blah blah. Okay, I feel better now. LOL. I hope everyone else is having a better day.

Good Luck with it all. You will be fine. Don't worry. I fly around 80,000 miles a year.

Reminds me of why I no longer ever place my fate in the hands of commercial aviation.

Fly only to places you absolutely have to go to that cannot be reached by road.

Good luck. TC.

drive safe!! Geez I remember doing that for 7 years for work, all over the US and Canada, getting snowed in all over, worst was in Bryan Ohio for 3 days......was great, work paid all food and bar tabs.....same in Helena , Montana.
Only had one booboo, put my rental car into a snow drift in Virginia :)
Good luck!

Re: Stuck in Snowstorm

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. All went well. Got through all the snow storms. The next morning the plane left on time. Got to where I was going and the weather had totally changed. I got the deer hunt in, actually was too warm for deer hunting. The weather was beautiful the whole week and when I flew home yesterday, after a couple hour plane delay, you wouldn't even know that we had that storm.

Awesome pics ... I wanna go back to Canada fishing! Used to go every June, but lost the place we went in 79 or 80 and haven't gone on a fishing trip there since ... place we went we walked through a swamp to get to the lake ... only about 100 fisherman a year on the chain of three lakes ... only "open" for about 10 years before we went. Huge Walleyes and Northern galore!

I wanna go back!

No walleyes here but lots of trout and landlocked salmon. And mosquitoes..especially in June.

LOL. I was being sarcastic. We have so many blackflies, I once saw them flies pick up a moose. Well, not really but I bet they can if they all got together.

Re: Stuck in Snowstorm

We stayed at Mile Post 131 on the Chibougamau Trail, Abitibi, Quebec. That is between Val Dor and Chibougamau. They told us that black flies would be terrible that time of year, but we never had a problem with them for some reason. Usually went the 3rd week of June and the ice had just come off the lake. A few black flies and mosquitoes through the swamp, but we were clear of them on the lake. 40-50 inch Northerns and 20 - 30 inch Eyes. Would not keep an eye under 18 or a Northern under 30. Had all we could eat all week, plus the 10 per species per person that we were allowed to take back across the boarder at the time.

It was always great fun, but our understanding was the lodge we went to had to close because the area was given back to the Indians that lived across the river from the Lodge. (From the lodge we drove 11 miles to where we parked along the road and walked the mile and a half to the lake each day).

Quebec is an absolute beautiful province. As is others, but certain years yield a certain amount of flies. I've seen years here where there were hardly any flies, and other years that you would have to keep your eyes and mouth closed while you were fishing. Absolutely horrible. June is the worst month for us, and depending on how hot the summer is, can carry on most of the summer. They usually burn off by mid July.

July seems to be the worst when we go to the cottage. I am certain some of them have teeth !!!
