Hello,

I have a US Marine Single Control Unit that has a stuck neutral saftey switch / neutral start up button on the main lever hub. It goes to a 91 force 150. I pushed in the button, gave her foward throttle to start the engine, and when returning the lever back to normal neutral the button would not disengage or "pop back out" so that I could give it forward throttle? So basically if I give her forward throttle its still just stuck in warm up neutral?

I have about 6 years being a ford tech on cars and am not a hack when it comes to repairs on things, know my tools pretty well, but also know that my knowledge is limited on these control boxes and dont want to do something If in reality I should just get it fixed or possibly just buy a new box?

Any help for this would be great? I have found a new control box for 150. but would like to avoid buying it if I can fix mine seeing as it is fairly new?

Thanks for any help, and sorry if I posted this on the wrong blog?

Ayuh,... Start with penetrating oil,+ move on from there...

It's probably corroded,... Ya gotta clean it up...

Thank you I will try that, should I just liberally shoot some WD40 in the control box near that area? before I get to pulling the control unit? Is this a pretty common problem that is a dumb post?

Just for sh**s and giggles, try this. With the button pushed in (and it is, duh!), move the lever to full forward. Now see if you can gently pry the button out. That's how the older Merc side mounts were set up to remove the button to get the shift lever off...

Can't hurt, as obviously something is retaining that button in the depressed position...

Thanks I will try that? I am certain that it needs a good cleaning and lube of components, but I will try your trick first just to see? First time boater so I just hope when all is said and done I can take it out and start enjoying some bass fishing from a boat versus the shore! I am certain of boat issues, and if I only had the money for a new boat I would not have this, but figure what a better way to learn boats by having a older one and learning the hard ways! It will only help me down the road when I get a new one, and im not blowing up a 20K + boat! thank you all for your responses, will post on Monday and let everyone know what happened!
