Hello all,

Needless to say my wife is ready to sale our boat .. I am not quiet ready to give on the old tri-hull just yet ..

It has a AQ130D (1977) and finally got it running nice .. So we go out about 3 about 3 miles from where wu put in and we hear a metal "clinking" sound ... I went to idle and about a minute later the engine died..

I went to look for the cause of the metal sound and found a shaft with threads on it (about 1" long) that came out of the very front of the mechanical fuel pump .. I put it back in and not no fuel pressure at all...

Is there a trick to prime the pump ? I took the fuel line off from gas tank and could feel no suction while cranking ..
I played with the lever that is always on the "up position" and it did nothing.

What problems could have that screw falling out caused ?

Is there a aftermarket electric fuel pump that would work ?

I would really like to fix the mechanical one as she is a little ticked on the amount of money I have been spending on the boat lately :)

Any help would be appreciated !

I replaced my mechanical fuel pump last year- they say there are no serviceable parts- get a new one
the lifter rod on mine wore out.

The cheapest I found was $359. I couldn't believe how much. Isn't there a low pressure electric fuel pump I could use?

I poured a litle gas down the carbs and she fired right up ... so I turned my attention to the fuel pump ...

I removed the fuel pump and the "arm" that rides on the cam lobe is GONE !

We heard a rattle a few minutes before she died... it sounded like detonation from the timing but it must have been that arm getting loose and falling ..

I cannot find the arm .. I assume it is probably in the oil pan now ? (I HOPE)

I found one used fuel pump for $199 but I think I am leaning towards going electric. If I am reading correctly the AQ130D requires about 3psi of fuel pressure. THe lowest rated electric fuel pump for marin I can find is 4psi .. I am not sure if that will make a difference or cause problems.

I also understand I need to setup a oil pressure cut off switch for it .. Does this just go where the oil pressure sensor is ?

Thanks....

Yes, need to run through an oil pressure switch. I'm not sure how to wire it. I'd start a new thread specific to the electric pump conversion for more specific help.

Good luck!
