Stuck rim trick?

My alloy rims are stuck to the hubs of my truck (GMC 2500). I've tried PB Blaster, kicking, hitting tire with a dead blow, lowering truck with lugs lose and nothing seems to work! Must have gotten salt water in there when I back down the launch ramp. Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Stuck rim trick?

Maybe a large gear puller or wheel puller..I used one on my son's nissan, the three hooks on it lined up with the slots in the wheel fairly well, then I tightened up the puller bolt and hit it with a hammer, tightened up a little more and hit it again.. took a little while but it eventually came off.. we then took a rat tail file and filed out the center hole on the wheel enough to slip on and off with no binding....good luck

I've used 8' 2x4's and a baseball swing to the rear of the tire.
Add heat and swing away
As a last resort install the lug nuts on about 1/4 turn from snug then drive the truck slowly and hopefully the shifing weight on the rim will free it up. The draw back is possible damage to the studs or wheel.

Heat, quench, beat on….. repeat until desired results are achieved.

Take it to a real tire shop before you break something. "I'd like my tires rotated"

I may do just that JRJ. I have free rotation. But I fear they'll just beat on the inside of the rims

Ralph they will (should) protect the rims with a board and I have seen sledge hammers and pry bars used.

Ask to have never sieze applied to the hub of the rim while it is off....not the lugs.

Bob

I've had to deal with this several times.
With the vehicle securely on jackstands keep applying penetrant through the hub opening and lug openings.
If you lay on the floor and kick with both feet against the tires, they'll come.

Just besure you don't kick the vehicle off the jack stands. Maybe do one at a time, one jackstand at a time for added safety.

I used to work at a tire shop and a BFH was the only way we got them off. Dont get under the car while its on a jack or stand while you are beating on it or it may come down on you.

Re: Stuck rim trick?

I,ve solved this by loosening the wheelnuts and driving slowly down the bumpy road. Out in the country though, no other traffic around.
