First I would like to say hello.
I have a '03 Merc 3.0LX, I'm replacing cap and rotor. I got the cap off ok , but the rotor wont pull off. Am I missing something here? Every rotor I've ever taken out of cars they just slip right off the shaft. I pulled so hard I thought I was going to break somthing. So I'm asking, is it just stuck or is there a fastener that I need to remove?
Thanks

Re: stuck rotor

Mercruiser maintenance manual states that they used red locktite when the rotor was installed. Manual states "Use heat to soften the locktite".
A big hair dryer will work if you don't have a heat gun, it will just take longer. The manual states, "Use two screwdrivers under the rotor to remove".

Re: stuck rotor

The locktite is on the Thunderbolt distributors, he has an EST. No locktite on them.
The rotor does fit tight, and they do have a tendency for rust to build up on the shaft.
I've had several that were really hard to pull off.
Clean the shaft of rust before reinstalling new rotor.

Re: stuck rotor

I whack the old rotor with a small hammer, remove the pieces, clean & lube the shaft with dialectric grease & install the new rotor.
