I actually had a complete valve job about a year ago, maybe less.

Engine started running rough 2 days ago, just while I was warming it up at the house, getting ready to take the boat out.

When I started it, it ran, but rough. In fact I just started it a few minutes ago, with the valve cover off. It started right up, and ran, but rough.

So, I took the valve cover off. The fourth valve from the front of the boat is stuck down, compressing the spring down further than the other valves appear to move.

The rocker arm was off of the valve, just turned sideways.

The push rod seems to be in good shape.

Okay, so now what. Does this sound like a bent valve? Is it possible that the valve is just stuck?
Do you think it damaged the piston?

Can I try to loosed up the valve without removing the head?

Thanks for the input.

As that valve is an exhaust valve, its possible that is stuck, especially if boat was stored in a high humidity location.

Try a little penetrating fluid down the valve guide and tap it with a hammer and wooden block to protect the valve tip. If your lucky it may just pop loose.

Thank you.

I was looking for some guidance on how to try and loosen the valve.

I will try this afternoon and let you know how it works out.

Thanks again!

stuck valves can be a symptom of an engine running too cold. check temp and thermostat

Whack the top of the valve with a hammer a time or two. It may pop back up. If not then it could be bent or really stuck.
Either way you should remove the head and take that valve out for inspection.

Re: Stuck Valve 3.0l OMC

IT WORKED!!!

Thanks everyone for your advice.

I used PB Solvent on the valve, and let it soak for awhile.

Then I tried to tap it with a hammer and wood. It went down further.
So, I wedged the claw of the hammer under the spring cover, and carefully applied pressure. The valve popped all the way up!

So, I soaked it solvent again, and again let it soak.
After a while again, I started the engine, and all the valves were just clicking away!

Awesome.

I soaked all the valves, and bought an oil additive.

Thanks.
