A notepad, because when out on the water you always need more stuff. And you can look back and see what you want to do over the winter.

a uscg approved bailing bucket/ #1 head (not to private but works better than standing on the stern or wherever....

a trash can w/liner.... ya wouldn't believe how this can help keep the mess down.... my trash can is very small, but it sure does work good....

cell phone

fixed vhf

gps + hand compass

hand held 12v spotlight

usually i boat barefoot. so i keep thick rubber sole sandals w/back strap so they won't slip off under abuse (like river mud) onboard for any time you need to protect your feet...

capability to go full enclosed if necessary (ie convertible top, if you have a speedboat)...

Looks like a really wild bunch of insurance salesman!
Friends, fuel and a full cooler...the rest will fall in place.

i dunno man? in boating, it may be better to plan on the outside..... never know when you'll find yourself all alone and getting the blues real bad for one reason or another. be it weather, mechanical, injury or any other multitude of possibilities when your on the water...... better to be prepared......

thing i don't like on a small boat is trippin over stuff.... everything has a place short of the bring aboards (a day bag, cooler). some of them have a spot too. just stored in the open as opposed to concealed...

if you are on big water.....a vhf is a must......a lake...a cell phone will do.

we are pretty safety concious on this site so make sure you have all the flares...throwing lines....ect....the full list is in the uscg rules at the top of the restoration forum....(dry dock....heh heh heh)

as far as fun stuff.......the cooler of bevies is a must.......for camping....in going to put in a few 12 volt plug ins.....for power acc's....including a coffie pot !

Re: stuff for my boat

We keep our boat docked for the season, so in addition to the USCG safety gear that stays aboard (and, did anyone mention a boathook?), we also have a "gear bag" that goes on and off with us every time we use the boat. It contains the small, "attractive to thieves" stuff:

GPS
Radio faceplate
Binoculars
Chart Book (and a magnifying glass :D )
12v plug-in spotlight
Large battery powered lantern
Spare boat keys
Spare car keys
Leatherman tool
A few other small odds 'n ends

Re: stuff for my boat

spare car key is a good idea that i hadn't thought of. i have a plastic tray out of a soft side tackle box designed to hold crankbaits. i use it to put extra plugs, fuses, boat key etc. will add a truck key to it.
