Sounds like power loss more so than weight from massive water ingress. Your tyres would be flat with an extra 3-4000 lbs. You most probably have some wter, weigh bridge will reveal that for you. If power is down, weight a little heavier, it might just tip the balance to not getting boat ip out of the water under full throttle.
Maybe check the throttle cable while your at it that WOT is actually wide open at the 2 barrel carb.

From what I saw in the first pic, the shafts look painted black but do not look like there retracted all the way, a way to check is remove the pivot bolt and see if
the drive will tuck in a bit. If it does, extend the rams and clean the paint off of the SS shafts

IMO even if the drive is not tucked the boat should still plane....... may take longer but still should plane. If you are sure the engine is running correctly try a different prop

Bondo: I lowered the jack in the front before trimming the leg down so it would not hit.

Bt doctor: I thought the rams were fully contracted. Ill look into it also.

I will get to some motor stuff tomorrow. Today I am replacing rotten leaf springs and hangers on the trailer...ughhhh

I picked up a few things at the local parts shop to do some testing on the ignition system. Will post results. I do believe I am going to grab a factory prop Monday just to be absolute about that option, plus it will be my spare if I get anything snazzy in the future.

Tip of the day, don't take anything for granted. Ignition timing was definitely off. I confirmed it was firing on all cylinders, then adjusted distributer and voila! It got right up on a plane.

So with my good luck also comes bad luck, the shifter cable was having difficulty going in and out of forward and reverse. Now it is plain old just stuck in gear and will not turn over the engine. Everytime I bump the ignition it conks out and moves the steering wheel slightly.

Fortunately I was not too far from the dock and did not get stranded out in the middle of the lake when it decided to give out.

Going to read the sticky's about shifter cables now :(
