stupid battery switch question

Hi guys, installing a Perko switch. My question is it says starter goes to the COMMON terminal. I understand how to wire the batteries, but I have 2 wires coming out of my engine, POS (red) and NEG (black),where does the BLACK wire coming out of my engine go?<br /><br />Thanks

Is this a 1,2,both switch?<br /><br />The red wire from the starter goes to the common terminal on the switch. The black wire from the engine ground goes to the negative terminal of both batteries.<br /><br />The +12 from each battery goes to the 1 or 2 terminal on the switch.<br /><br />Good luck.

The NEGATIVE terminal on both batteries must be connected together. That's the system ground. The black wire can connect to either one of those terminals as JB says. You should also have a ground wire to the console that serves the gound function for all accessories.
