This is probally a really dumb question to ask but here it goes. I bought a 1977 16ft glastron has a 100 hp chrysler outboard it's older I'm unsure on year. The bot runs good but isn't fast at all 15 tops the prop took some very hard hits from a concreat boat ramp grinder a inch and a half to more on each blade I'll post pics soon, the boat is very slow like 15 mph or slower slow I thought a boat with a 100 hp would go 30 or so. I don't know rather to start working on the motor or just start with a prop

I'll bite. You trimmed 1 1/2" from each blade. You chopped 3 inches from a prop in the section that probably generates up to 50% of the thrust. I know where I would start.

If you rip into the motor and get it running like new, you still are going to have poor performance because of the prop. Get a replacement prop, same as you have for starters. Then you can start with the rest. My opinion for what it's worth.

To find a prop, go up top of the page and go to the Marine Store. iboats has a selection of all kinds of goodies.

Forgot to add, post up in the Force/Chrysler forums. They will help you out there.

That prop is pretty bad. I wouldn't run it for 1, your performance is going to be greatly reduced and 2, being that beat up it will cause excess vibration and possibly damage your lower unit. I wouldn't mess with the motor, it is probably just fine. Your going to need to replace or repair your prop anyway so I would start with that.

Start with one that matches the pitch of the prop on there. Prop diameter and pitch should be stamped around the hub or barrel of the prop.

The Chrysler is somewhere between 1978 and 1984. Before you do anything else, check compression ratio and see if there is spark on all four cylinders.

With the damage to that prop, get another one in better condition. You can use props for Force engines. On a 16 foot Glastron I would expect about 30-35 MPH. Start with a 17 pitch prop. Any more will load down that engine, even though the Glastron is a light boat.

Then, if speed does not come up appreciably, go to the Force/Chrysler forum and click on FAQs. Read the synchronizing post and try that.

Re: Stupid boat question

No offense but meant but yes, that was a dumb question. That prop is junk. You've lost half of the blade surface, the rest of the blade is not clean and even small amounts of damage can have dramatic effects on performance. That has to be one of the worst I've seen. For less than $100 and a 1/2 hour of work you'll immediately see a huge difference in the performance of your boat. "Slip" is the ever present destroyer of a boat's performance and yours is close to 100%!!! LOL
Dude, buy a prop and then take the boat out. Check your rpms and speed and report back.

Re: Stupid boat question

I just ordered a new 1. I didn't know a prop being that mangled up would make it run that slow I jut got it off and then realized that has to be my problem boat runs great just not real fast I'm gonna put the new 1 on it before I do anything else to the boat like a few people said that's probally my only problem I'm typing all this on a iPhone so forgive any misspelling. I'll post results when it gets here I ended up paying 75 off of eBay.

Re: Stupid boat question

the only thing the ebay add said was" chrysler outboard michigan prop 072032 " i sent the guy a email asking about if it would fit my boat and he said yes so i bought it.... i had plans on buying the boat and putting that motor on my 14 ft bass angler but its a little big for that.... i guess im gonna sale the boat and take my motor on the bass angler to the shop or buy another boat. i got 450 in the boat and motor i figure i can sale it for 1200 or so if i get her running at the right speed. and whats the deal with prop am i not spelling it right?

Re: Stupid boat question

That's a 15 pitch prop so I hope you have a tach, you'll want to be sure you dont run to many RPM's. Especially if you ran the boat for any length of time with that prop, or if that prop was on that motor when the damage was done. Ujoints, drive shafts and gears don't like to work properly after hitting something that hard, especially if the motor was run afterwards with the prop.
