I have a 16' aluminum boat that I am currently restoring and have been told NOT to use any copper containing bottom paint but no one can tell me why. So what should I use? thanks in advance for the help

I beleive it causes a reaction with the aluminum. Take a look at this site. Trilux is formulated for aluminum. They could also give you all the advice you need.

Jack, Two metals in a salt create a battery. Car batteries are lead and lead oxide in sulfuric acid. In your case, copper and aluminum in salt water.

There are some bottom paints that are safe for aluminum. You need to use one of these. Tri-Lux is good, however, there are rigid priming instructions to protect the hull.
