I have a friend who is new to boating and not real swift when it comes to things mechanical or electrical. He is very intelligent but not in everyday life things. He bought and older trihull and stores it at my place because I am close to the water and have extra room.
He took his GF and 2 kids out on the boat one night and just about dark he called me from his cell phone to tell me his lights didn't work and the sheriff was going to make him leave. I got in my boat and went out and replaced a fuse for him all the while telling him about the dangers of going out without checking stuff. Later that night somehow the bow line got pushed overboard and ended up in the prop. He had to cut the line off the prop and wondered why the boat would barely move even though it reved up OK. Yes, he twisted the hub bushing out of the prop but had a spare so the next day he changed the prop and decided to go for a test run. He launched the boat and it was going along great until he noticed water on the deck. He had joined the "I forgot the plug" club but did have enough sense to speed up and get the water out then put the plug in quickly after he stopped. I would get frustrated but he is a constant source of entertainment around boats! 8)
