I guess it could've been a total loss.

Bad day, very very bad day. How do you think the trailer got so damaged?

It seems the van was floating for a while. My guess is that the trailer sank, and then the van either landed on top of it, or at least caused it to twist?

Seeing this has made me much more nervous about solo launches now. Its probably a good idea to have wheel chocks.

On the trailer damage, I bet it went off the edge of the ramp sideways and the damage occurred as the wrecker drug everything out.

So, is the worst day boating always better than the best day working?

How many of yall actually read the whole thread that was with? Biggest bunch of dufuses, who obviously have never towed anything, or have a clue as to boat weights.
They said the fender was put there, when the van drifted to far off the ramp, where boats could hit it. Was put there as a buoy.
As far as trailer damage, the trailer jack knifed, and the van just kept going. That is how the van got turned sideways in other pictures.
The guy who took the pictures says the van guy probably forgot to set the brake. Plus, that boat is probably pushing 4500 wet weight. That van is rated for 3500, and I wouldn't put anywhere near that behind it. The damage to the van was because the wrecker chain was wrapped around the axle.

Don't bother wasting your time reading all four pages of it. Not worth it.

Too late. Already read the whole thing.

Nevertheless, this is an amazing story. As a new boater to be, this is the very thing I would lose sleep over if I decided to use my wife's Chrysler Town & Country to tow with. But, alas, I decided a while ago I'm not going to try it. Will find something heavier with 4WD or all-wheel drive instead. The vehicle purchase might push my boat purchase back a year, but it will be worth it.

You can see in the pic above (from Salty87) clear skid marks where the van was spinning its front wheels all the way down the ramp. Almost looks like the left wheel kept spinning after the right one stopped for some reason.

I bet the EPA's gonna have a fit with all the gas and oil the car released into the river. I think I'd rather pay the bill from fire rescue than have to deal with the fine the fed's are going to levy when they get wind of this.
