Stupid Mariner Question????

I have a 100HP 1991 Mariner outboard. My buddy has a 1991 Mariner 115HP outboard. We have checked out every inch of both motors the book has them as sister engines same sections same build-up. So here is the stupid question! Where does the extra 15 ponies come from, bore and stroke?

Exhaust tuning would be my guess.

Exhaust tuning? Ok that would make sense since it's a two stroke. I see you have a couple of Star Crafts. We do not get many big aluminum boats down here in Florida. I always get a lot of looks on my Prince Craft. Thnxx

No it the carbs, the 100 has a smaller venturi/bore than the 115. The 100 uses WME-20 series carbs and the 115 uses WME-21 series. Mercury does the same thing on the newer 70-90hp 3 cylinder motors.

So if I buy some diffrent carbs I can find more ponies? I dont have to change anything with the ignition or timing? Thnx for the info by the way.

"plug and play" simple.Find a blown 115 and buy carbs or better yet find a 125 and install them and beat you buddy!!!

Yup. Fazbullet is correct. I was told the same thing about the Merc 9.9 and the 15...same thing, different carbs.
