I put keypads on the house and shop garage doors. I would never hear the end of it from my wife & kids... lol

Re: stupid me

Sounds like it isn't trivial to break into your house. That's a good thing imho.

Re: stupid me

A little off subject, but did you ever see I believe it was the show COPs on TV, were the young boy locked his mother out of the house, the mother called the police to help scare the boy into opening the door. Well that didn't work so after several minutes of arguing with the little so and so the police broke the window in the door and finally got the door unlocked and went and had a talk with the little punk. I would have had to tare him up one side and down the other. I would of broke the window myself and got my moneys worth out of him.

I always have a house key on my truck key ring, that always stays on me, plus we have a spare hidden outside.

I did one stupid thing one time after locking the key in the car I thought didn't have a spare key handy, well I called the lock smith he made a Key and got me fixed up, then I come to find out I had the spare key all along. $100 shot to h**, and this was after a long day of work. I can't remember were I found the spare but I found it just after the lock smith came out and finished the job. That was an expensive 3rd spare key I had made lol. That was years ago.

I carry a spare truck key in my wallet, but don't remember when I last locked the door to my house at The Hideout. I may have never locked it.

Re: stupid me

Been there, done that, luckily I found a ground floor back bedroom window unlocked. Yeah, I know, I keep saying I'm gonna hide a key.

Re: stupid me

Isn't that the way it always works TD, that would be my luck also. Now witch house would of been easier to break into the neighbors to get your spare key or yours lol, just joking of course.

Re: stupid me

This reminds me, you know till this day that my parents double wide has 3 doors, 1 front, 1 back (glass sliding), and one side. But from the day they got the double wide new till now (22 years later) they don't have a key but for only the side door. They never had a key for the other doors.

I have spare keys hidden for everything. But, around here you never have to lock anything anyway. I've forgotten where the spare keys are hidden on some things. In my area all locks do is keep out your friends.

be carefull with double cylinder deadbolts bob. they're a fire hazard for your family. and maybe a safety hazard if someone does get in yer house and you come home.....at least keep a key near the door, if not in the lock inside cyl......

and both i have bugular proofed.
most locks are pickable. unless they have high security cylinders in them. medeco and schlage primus are a couple that come to mind.....

I got lock IN my house once. Had keyed deadbolts on both doors due to there being windows in the doors. Wife accidently left with both sets of keys. Dulp!

Re: stupid me

after bro in law passed away, i put double cylinder schlage on all my sisters doors. also put a nail on the side of each casing, with a spare key for emergency. all are keyed alike.

This is the issue I have, just put in an inside/outside Schlage keyed deadbolt on both doors, but if I leave the key in it's visible thru the side windows?

Re: stupid me

put a cup hook on the upper right side of the door with a key on it. i use just a plain #3 finishing nail, into the side of the door casing, almost invisible, from inside. upper right on all doors, that way all members know where it is.
