Is there a run of the mill test to check the speedo on an 84 Bayliner it did work but crapped out the tube seems fine and the (fin) isn't plugged. Thing is of the nine boats I've owned in the last 40 years this is the first one with a speedometer.
Thanks Ed

With the tube off the speedo, do you get a stream of water from the tube when on plane?
Put a short piece of tube in the speedo & blow into it, does the needle move?

thats all it is- if you put a short tube on it & blow in it- it should move.

{insert joke here}

Actually, it's a pitot gauge. Once it's working, verify the speed it reads with a handheld GPS to see how worthless it truly is...:rolleyes:

Almost as useless as the tiny paddlewheels; too many variables with all that water rushing under the hull.

You may have recently retired, but you'll always be a firefighter!!!:D Most people never heard of a pitot gauge... Not even boaters with speedometers on their boats:eek: When was the last time you checked the pressure on a hydrant, chief?;)

Safe and happy boating always!!!

Actually? About 5 weeks ago. I'm part owner of a company that test private fire hydrants on commercial properties (mostly apartments). But aside from that...it would have been about 10 years!!!
