stupid question

on a 1977 johnson 115 how do you get the rod that stops the motor from going on down out, there is 5 different holes for adjustment, was going to move it up one but it cant slide far enought

Make sure the tilt lock in in the tilt position. Pick up on the lower unit to relieve the pressure on the thrust rod, push in on the rod and turn it until the little flipper on the end straitens out and then pull it out. Does that make any sense to you?

yes but the tilt cylinder holding brackets wont let the rod come out far enough

Is it an after market system, I wounder if the was some modification that was supposed to be made when the unit was installed.

i dont thnk its after market the pump is mounted on the right side not underneath middle like the newer ones

If you have TRIM and tilt, there should be no reason to move the trim bar.

If you just have tilt only, I can see why. If the tilt motor is in the way, you'll have to remove it. Once done, put the trim bar in from the other direction.
