Re: stupid question?

ok so when i do the new floor and stringers, im thinking im going to use a poly resin. im assumeing that the boat hull was made wuth polly? plus the polly is much cheaper! any thoughts?

You are correct polyester resin is fine...and it is what your boat is made from (99.9% sure anyway)

Re: stupid question?

If you don't have a local supplier, check out www.USComposites.com They are a quality company with reasonable prices. Shipping can be an issue at times. I would think in the New York area you could find a supplier. You need Non Waxed laminating Poly resin, cabosil and chopped fibers for thickening, CSM mat and 1708 biaxial cloth. A bubble busting roller would be handy as well.

Here is a general "rule of thumb" for resin coverage: (per gallon)

Cloth: 40 sq. ft.
Mat: 20 sq. ft.
Roving: 15 sq. ft.
No Fabric: 100 sq. ft.

Re: stupid question?

i have been all over the us composits web site, thanks.
so far this is my shopping list:
50 yd of 1708
50 yd of csm 1.5
15 gl of polly resin
4lbs Cabosil
4lbs 1/4" Chopped Strand
5 tubes of pl glue
5 sheets of 3/4 hardhood plywood
15 gl of polly foam
i hope thats enough for a 21 foot bowrider?

what is a bubble busting roller?

Re: stupid question?

I really don't think you'll need 50 yds of each. 25 at the very most. Your deck area should not be more than 150 -180 sq feet top and bottom. Bubble buster roller is sold on USC.

I recommend the red one.
Keep it washed down with Acetone or it will be useless.

Fiberglass Detail Rollers
[SIZE=-1]Detail rollers are superior in quality and also include a threaded handle to adapt to longer poles. All aluminum heads.
