After reading the post about irresponsible parent, it got me thinking on how our parents teach us a lesson after we did something wrong.
One thing that comes to mind, I was 9 years old at that time and for the fun of it decided to put clothes pins on my cat hears, as soon has I let go the cat, it just went wild  climbing the walls , like out of control  and making an awful lot of noise, I knew I did something wrong but couldn't catch the darn thing, when my mother came to my bedroom wondering what was all that commotion and help me catch the cat the first thing that came out of her mouth was "Wait till your father gets home"

So my father gets home, I'm still in my bedroom not knowing what to expect, he calls me over, I look at him coming out of the bedroom and he's smiling  and without saying a word grabs some clothes pins and puts them on my hears and tells me with a grin" I will tell you when to take them off"

I sure learned a lesson

Marc..

In the mid seventies when I was about ten I snapped a combination padlock shut around my cat's rear leg. I still have scars from getting it off. Should have used one with a key!

How about forging your folks signature on a bad report card, the thought of my Mom chasing-catching-and beating me with her favorite wooden spoon is still one of our best stories and the end of my criminal past LOL:D. Mom and Dad still calls it parenting and I agreed:cool:

I was eleven years old and had finished mowing our acre of yard with the old reel push mower. No gasoline motor. I was then finishing my homework when Dad came home. He jerked me up off my chair by my arm, dislocating my shoulder and then beat me with a rope. I had forgotten to take out the garbage.

Never forgot to take out garbage after that incident.:(:(

I used to jump down from an overpass onto the freight cars as they were coming out of the marshalling yard in a small town my grandmother lived in. I wanted to catch a ride to the next town and walk back. Fortunately I was caught by a brakeman after a while and that brought my hobo career to an end. I was young (11 years old) and bulletproof. I never once thought of rolling under the wheels if I misjudged the speed or the length of the car.

I still like trains though!

Was he sorry for dislocating your shoulder?

Re: Stupid things you did when you were young

One year around christmas I took my mom's wooden spoon(the one she liked to spank me with) and I wrapped it up and put it under the christmas tree as a present to my mom. She couldn't find it for almost a month(we usually put the tree up the day after thanksgiving) when christmas came and she opened it up she was very unhappy with me. I think she made up for the times she couldn't use it while it was under the tree.

guess this is a good place for me to put my first post. I've done plenty of stupid i mean "patience testing" things in my life. one of my favorites was... i used to jump my bmx bike over an alley whe we were kids. one of my buddies didn't believe it and wanted to see me do it. it was a little wet out from a morning shower. when i hit my dirt ramp it was muddy, bike slipped some didn't get a good launch. to make it worse there was a brand new car sitting in the alley with a pregnant woman sitting in the passenger seat. i still don't know how she managed not to drop the kid right there when i crashed into her door. her hubby snatched me up and drug me all the way to my house. he didn't make me pay for the damage, but my dad sure made me pay for it.

I had a bike and like all d kids i was pimping it (this happen in early 70's) Well, the rich guy that lived behind us keep having parties with his wealthy friends and I saw these real nice chrome tire pressure valve caps in almost all of the cars. I thought they would not miss a pair for me, or maybe 2 pairs, or maybe a couple dozens... Long story short, on Christmas eve my mom finds the caps that i saved under my mattress. After getting a beating from her my dad said he will deal with me the next day... Next day all kids were sporting their toys but my gift a brand new bike sat in my room, unused for a YEAR. Next Christmas he let me use it... Never have I stole ANYTHING again!!!!

Without paying much attention to where I was walking, I took a long walk on a short pier.

Just once.

Once I got my drivers license and had shown responsbile boatmanship, mom and dad turned me loose with the family runabout to hit the local lakes for fish. A buddy and I were on the lake and had anchored up while eatting lunch. After lunch we went to pull the anchor and found it hooked to something solid. We pulled and tugged but it would not budge. Not problem my 16 year old brain said, just tie the rope to the back of the boat, hammer the throttle and pull the anchor loose. So I did just that. When the rope came tight teh boat stood straight up in the air and there was a long pause until the rope snapped. I was years before it occured to me that I might have pulled the transome off.

Re: Stupid things you did when you were young

My brother and i were playing in the backyard one day when we were kids. We had a couple packs of black cat fire crackers. We kept lighting them off and it started to **** my mom off because all the dogs were going nuts. She yelled out the window at us to stop but being kids we had to see how far we could push her. STUPID me decided to take one of the firecrackers and tie a longer wick to it and put it into some dog poop. I bent down and lighted the wick that i thought was long enough and it blew up in my face. I had dog ---- all over my face my ears my nose my mouth etc. I ran in the house and when my mom saw what had happened she almost passed out laughing at me because i didn't want to close my mouth and taste dog ----. It took her about 20 minutes to stop laughing to help get me cleaned up. She said i told you to stop and look what happened. Needless to say this has been the story told to all my girlfriends and friends every time the topic is brought up about stupid things that i have done for about 30 years now. I almost wish we would have had it on tape because i'm sure it would have won $ on Funniest home videos.

Re: Stupid things you did when you were young

well i am still young so there are probably more stories to come. heres one..if you ever try a dock start, make sure that the kneeboard can actually slide on the dock before taking off with the unfortunate victim hanging on the rope. me and my brother used to love fireworks...still do what am i sayng? anyway, i got the bright idea to make a typical paper airplane and stick a pinklady firecracker in the back of the plane. lit it, pulled the plane back by my ear..BOOM. forgot it had a .5 second fuse. i couldn't hear for a few days in the ear.

Re: Stupid things you did when you were young

The county was burying culverts on a stretch of road to raise the road bed and prevent it from flooding out. During one phase of construction they had a dozen 10-12' culverts half covered with dirt which made a series of "jumps" down the road. Being young and stupid (and watching the Dukes of Hazzard on TV) this seemed like the perfect place to see if my ol' Chevy 1/2 ton pickup could get air borne. Surer than anything I had the truck flying through the air landing perfectly at 60MPH. On the last culvert I decided to slow down to 40MPH so I could stop for the intersection,,, truck nose dived, I ate the steering wheel, exhaust was dragging on the ground. My folks thought I got into a fight and didn't say too much, I was able to baling wire up the exhaust and the other damage wasn't too noticeable. Since the suspension was fubared I traded the truck off for an S-10.

My buddy lived down a lonely country road which was perfectly graded dirt and I had no desire to see if the S-10 could fly, but wondered how it was at sliding. Over the next few days I went faster and faster, dropping the manual tranny into 1st and yanking the wheel to get the truck into a sideways slide, then punching it when I was at their road. I had it down to a science and was pulling off this maneuver at 70MPH when my buddy's dad said he saw the local sheriff measuring out and taking pictures of my handy work. I stopped the antics as I didn't want to get a wreckless driving ticket.

The crazy driving seemed safe at the time because no one was around, but WOW, it was pretty friggin stupid!

This is what happened to me last time I hit a culvert:
