Well my younger days are a blank to me, I don't know why. I am only in my late 20's. Anyhow I was 15, I recall letting my 18 year old girl friend drive what I believe was still my mom's car at the time (a 1990 escort) on my uncle's drive way (that is pretty long). Well the car was a straight shift and she wasn't use to it. We ended up going up behind the family cemetary and much to our surprise there were logs laying in the field. Well we were moving on at a pretty good pace when we noticed that we had no where else to go, we ended up wrecking into a pile of dirt. Thank god it didn't do any damage to the car, eventually my mom and dad found out because my uncle who pulled us out told them. I never got a beating over that but I may of had a talking to. The girlfriend didn't last very long, I think her friend (my cousin) talked her out of seeing me.

Of coarse when I turned 16 I was going to high school and working a part time job. I bought a car for $3000 paid in full, I turned around a wrecked it 3 months later when I fell asleep just a mile down I wrecked into a brick wall. I was on the way to work, and that was the earliest I have ever had to be at work that morning. I was in the hospital for 18 days and spent my 17th birthday in there. I have a permanent injury from that one, a fused ankle that wasn't the only injury though the seat belt cut my splean, bruised my liver, and fractured my nose to when I hit my head on the steering wheel. I couldn't get the driver's door open so I had to kick the window out to climb out. Can you believe I hopped out of that car in that condition and hollered for help?

There was a time that I recall my cousin's older sister coming up to the house and we told her to tell my parents "that you haven't seen us and you don't know where we are". They got pretty upset over that one. What it was we were gone for a long time that day and they were worried.

Like I said my childhood is mostly a blank. I do recall being chased around the house after making a smart remark or three to my father or mother. I was able to out run the old man back then when he chased me with a belt.

geez...which time...
I guess one thing comes to mind was dad was in the navy..career navy...we moved alot.....had one of those **** tracy pump action water guns..in Ga. it gets really hot and when the sun went down all the base housing has spot lights people turn on thier driveways and porches.....my buddy and I went from house to house with that **** tracy pump action shotgun water gun hitting the hot lights with cold water.....a little sizzle and pow!!..the lights exploded....we were well hidden and they'd come out ..look around and look at the broken light.....then go back in....we'd sneak away and laugh till our sides hurt....

when dad found out about it...I didn't sit down for a week without a pillow......

then there was the time dad said go out and get me a switch to spank you with.....I came back with a dried out ole twig....never saw the telephone pole coming!!!)

I was staying with my Grandfather when I was young. He was a German farmer, Well, I was a picky eater and one day he told me to eat everything because there were people starving all over the world.

I can't remember anything too good about my childhood, but it makes me think about what I would to to my three kids if they tried any of this stuff. The oldest is only three, so I've got a while I suppose. It's her little sister that will be the handful....

I do recall the first time my oldest daughter got spanked. She refused to listen when I told her that she was not supposed to hug the baby around the neck. She would go and just squeeze her around the neck, and the poor baby would just scream. I always felt bad for her, as I never knew that she understood WHY she wasn't supposed to hug her sister. I suppose it doesn't matter, because she figured out that hugging sister gets her spanked, and the baby is now a toddler torturing her little sister.

My friend Ivan and I had a brilliant idea. We wanted to have some bullets--not full cartridges, but just the lead bullets--to show off to our friends. Ivan stole six rifle cartridges out of his dad's gun locker and we proceeded to whack on the sides of them with a flat iron to loosen up the lead. We got one out with only about five minutes of work. Cool. The second one came out after only two hits. Unfortunately, it came out at a couple-hundred miles an hour, bounced off a neighbor's steps 1/4 mile away, and went through his car's rear window. My folks never found out, but after walking Ivan home, I could hear him yelping and crying half-way back to my house.

Oh man... so many things. If anyone of you was the victim of these actions, I am very sorry.
- Broke into a local grocery store one night, stole hundreds of eggs, and egged everything in my neighborhood.
- Threw a smoke bomb into an open car window. Fire dept had to put that one out.
- Pee'ed down an actively used well.
- Brother and I having squirt gun fights, I filled mine with pee.
- Oh,.. better not tell about this one.
- A group of long haired men helped my mother out of a ditch, after which, I yelled out 'hippies'.
-Tried to poison my brother by pouring rubbing alcohol in his food (it just boiled off).
- Pushed my friend into a large hole that was being worked on. It was for city sewage.
- Another friend using a porta-potty, to which we rocked it and stuff splashed him everywhere.
... and that's just what comes to mind now.

With a box of .44 caliber bullets and roll of duct tape, we taped a long series of bullets to a railroad track. Then we sat back and waited for the train. We waited and waited and finally here it came, slowly building speed as it came out of town. It worked just as planned and all 20 or so bullets fired off as if from a fully automatic machine gun. I have to admit, it sounded pretty cool!

I was a good kid... so good that I washed my mom's new (maybe 2-3 months old) Camry... and to get ALL the stuck on road grime off, I used a brillo pad. Looked great until the water dried and all the swirl marks showed up... it's a funny thing how steel wool works so well on dinerware but not so well on a new car's paint job.

Probably none... bullets need a barrel to fire off at any speed or for any distance. Rounds that "cook off" are all bark and no bite...

That being said... train wheels hitting any loose metal can turn it into a projectile... there was some train tracks near where I grew up that people used to put pennies and nickels and wait for the frequent trains to flatten them out... that is, until someone was killed by a nickel the train had kicked out.

PS - I wasn't there so that doesn't count as a stupid thing I did... but these do...

When I was 3 I told my older brother to lay his thumb down on the pavement, then I picked up a boulder and smashed it. I have no idea why.

It was Dads 1st position as Stationmaster. We lived close to the tracks.
Main line was getting new enbankments so shunting yards were full of gravel wagons. There was a shortage of staff, so Dads clerk and Goods manager worked the night shift with the double ended shunter, moving these wagons.
Norman, the junior, worked early night shift, and we use to sneak out and drive the shunter while Norman ran ahead and changed the points. I had just jumped off the shunter for some reason, and my brother was still driving......next thing there was screaching and grinding and sleepers flicking up in the air....it was terrible. When it stopped shunter was leaning way over, along with maybe 6 wagons....big big wreck. We shot of home and left Norman to it.
3rd brother tells the balance of the story.
Family were at the table when this massive noise happend. Dad rose off his seat and shot out the front door, and about 2mins later you 2 raced in the back.
All mother said was "you 2, get to bed and stay there".
We spent the night looking out the bedroom window....absolute mayhem. The main line was out. They bought it one of those trains that had a big steam crane and all the workers lived in special carriages. Big flood lights going. Buses everywhen taking people off the passenger trains that couldn't pass.
Amazing site.
Nothing was ever said.
Just before Dad died, I asked him if he remembers it.

Well guess what.....we drove it thru the points before Norman could get them across!!
He sat their quietly for minutes with his whiskey in his hand.
Hmmmmm, remember your mother being very good to me for a long time then!!
We had a good laugh.

My kid swipped some 9mm shells from his uncle once. I was afraid that he would start whacking them with a hammer! Luckily he didnt...

I'd like to clarify some details surrounding the duct tape/bullet deal. The tracks were set down in a depression with 10-12ft berms on each side. We had to climb down to the tracks and climb back up and out when we left. Even as deliquent kids we selected that stretch of track specifically for the fact it was surrounded on either side by dirt and rock.

I think he probably wanted to, but Grandma kept me safe... All I know is I never considered saying anything like that again AND I ate everything on my plate.

I miss that man, he passed a few years ago now. 86 and I wouldn't spar with him.
