Ok, I'm getting new tires on my ZJ next weekend. But I have a really odd question. When I go you BFGoodrich's site (BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A's) and look at their All Terrain T/A's, it says they have them in the size 225/70R16, which is the factory size that came on my ZJ.

But when I go to all the tires sites it says that tire is not available for me Jeep... I don't get it!?!

I mean 225/70R16 is the same for all tire types, right?!

Sean

Re: Stupid Tire Question

What you REALLY want to do is get 10" wide rims and put 33X12.50 BFG All Terrain TA's on them. They look great, wear even, last forever, and perform awesome off road.

Otherwise I would recommend going to Sears. They stock BFG's in all standard sizes, and I love thier service.

Re: Stupid Tire Question

eeboater,

If that is the size that came on the Jeep, then that is the size it will take in a replacement. The guides are just wrong. Not the first time.

I disagree with Soulwinner. I strongly advise against going to Sears for any auto service. Their staff is often inexperienced, in training, or doesn't care about your car. Twice I have gone to Sears for tires, years apart and different stores, and twice have had tires of different sizes mounted on opposite sides of my car.

Re: Stupid Tire Question

Is it possible that BF makes the tire, but the factory gets them all? So therefore, no tire dealers actually have them to sell to you? :(
Before you say I am nuts or stupid, this was the case on a 1988 GMC 3500 SRW that had from the factory LT245/80R16 (I even think they were BF's too!). Well, when it needed tires, we had to get the LT235/80R16, cause the dealer couldn't get the 245, he said, cause the factory gets them all.

Well, I can get the BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A's for about 89 bucks a pop. A steal.

ee,Check your tires and see if they are P series tires.(p225/70r16) If so they are passenger (car) tires and you will need BF Goodrich Land Terrain T/A's( or what ever they call them this year). Thats what my silverado uses.

Just trying to help.I've put over a million miles on vehicles over the years and brand notwithstanding,I thought I would inform someone of what I thought was a good deal on some decent rubber.I've also eaten several sets of BF's off the rims of vehicles over the years and IMO they are not necessarily superior tires.

I put a new set of 31X10.50X15" All Terrain on my Ranger 4X4 right after I bought it. I have 60,000 miles + on them now, and yes they are at a point where they should be replaced, but I am estatic that they lasted that long.

Re: Stupid Tire Question

I have had both the BFG and the Liberator. The Libs lasted quite a bit longer. The BFG AT had more traction on pavement and a better ride. Our Montana came with the self sealing tires. We could only get one tire a month, NTB could only get 2 in a month and would sell us one.

I wasn't ruffled eeboater.Too old for that.Just saying that I was impressed with the Liberator tire for the price.I run mostly name brands as well when I can get em cheap.Sounds like you found yours. :)

Re: Stupid Tire Question

I have found the no name brand offroad tires to work really well. My dad had nothing but problems from the Generals that came with his truck. Switched to generic off road tires, and nothing but smooth sailing since.

Ken
