Rant on:

My wifes friend from Thailand would like to come visit us for a couple of weeks.

She is a college graduate, owns her own business in Thailand, and has traveled to the UK several times.

Her visa was denied by the US embassy in Bangkok.

I told her to get on a flight to Mexico and walk right over.

The stupidity of it all is enough to drive a sane person nuts.

I can understand your frustration. Keep out for a VISIT the "good" people and let everyone else sneak under the radar.
Any reason for the denial of a visa?
Your wife is a Thai if I remember correctly?

Hey Ken, I got a buddy looking for a wife. Could be instant citizenship for her! Not sure if he would be her type though8)

Was the application incomplete?

Was the information incorrect?

Did she violate customs last time she travelled?

Did she changer her hairstyle and no longer looked like her picture?

Does she carry cash when she travels? (always raises suspicion)

I won't relegate the employees doing their job to stupidity just yet... there may be a legitimate reason. There are rules for a reason.

I hope she gets to visit you soon.

Sorry guys she is getting married in December.

She did make the mistake of being overconfident in that they would grant her a visa. There was a lot more paperwork she could have given them, but thought the fact she has traveled extensively would make her an easy pass.

If you havent ever been though this process, it is ridiculous. I had to beg them for a 30 day visa so my wife could see my family before we were married.

I have seen many sad faces walk out of that embassy. If you are a young pretty single woman, you have no chance. So dont get your hopes up. 8)

The stupidity is based on the fact that thousands walk over the mexico border every day, some are even captured and and then released, yet one college graduate with previous visas to the UK was denied a visa.

To me, that is stupid.

SS Mayfloat.... it AIN"T instant citizenship, getting married. My wife and I found that out real fast. Lots and lots of money spent just to make her and the kid permanent residents. She works and pays taxes and SS..it's almost not worth the trouble and expense to go the citizen route..... be easier and cheaper to stay as she is. Only thing is she can't vote.. big deal. With the sorry choices we have to make in that department voting doesn't look like that big of a deal anyway anymore.

Guess your right AE. Probably the only instant citizenship is if your a woman, preganant, and have the baby on US soil. Then the child is an instant citizen. I really believe that needs to be changed big time.

I do remember when it was easy to marry into citizenship. Just so much has happened in the last 10 years. Sad thing is that I can't see it getting any better ever..:'(

Hope things work out Ken

Now I have to get to the INS and see about the status of my daughter. The adoption went through a couple of weeks ago. So now that she's legally my daughter instead of step daughter is that going to make her a citizen ? It gets interestinger and interestinger..... lol

Ken, some countries can come over without a visa and get a 3 month stamp on their passport when the enter the country. That's what my wife did when she first came here. She was traveling on either her Australian or Greek passport...don't remember which. And I did the same thing when I went to Greece. I had a stop in Amsterdam and they stamped me into Europe there. Dunno if Thai's can do that or not.

Re: Stupidity of Immigration Personnel

yep I am facing the same issue.
my fiancee,we have dated for almost 5 years, is a venezuelan and spanish citiozen. she holds a duel nationality.
the INS rules are so haphazard and no one at INS will give the same answer twice. its as bad as the IRS.
so when we get married, possibly at christmas, I will move there as its so much less hassle for me to be a VE resident than her to become either a US resident or citizen.
marriage has noting to do with citizenship here its all in what lawyer you hire and how much you can afford.
she has a bachelor in biology and an MBA and is also a spanish to english and english to spanish translator and is certified by the ATA and also has a legal translation endorsement. would make a fine addition to the US, however its more trouble than its worth to come here legally.
so while I was in VE last week I had some job offers from Yamaha about starting a training facility.
its something I have been working on for 2 years, a techinacal training facility to teach welding, outboard repair and sterndrive repair.
so far its slow but its coming along :).

Art, is your daughter young or an adult.

I adopted my step-son he was a thai national. We just showed the thai adoption decree and US greencard and now he has a US passport and is an offical US citizen.

You have to legally adopt the person and then get a greencard and then you are an instant citizen.

More info here: http://travel.state.gov/family/adoption/info/info_457.html

Just get legally married in VE, then apply for a greencard, then wait a year. Do it all at the US embassy in VE.
