Styrofoam ? in exhaust

New to the forum. I just bought my first boat, 14' john boat with 2000 Mercury 25 2 stroke. When i ran the engine at the boat ramp I noticed little chunks of what looks like white styrofoam coming out of the exhaust. Anyone have any ideas? thanks scott

Never mind previous post. I think the motor sucked up a piece of styrofoam and thats whats coming out.

Although possible, it would be hard to past the grill and screen.
Is the pisser working?
I've seen impeller pieces that were creamy white(ish) come out of the exhaust before.

No the pisser isn't working right. It's not coming out as a steady stream, so I'm getting a new water pump put in tomorrow. I'm not suprised if the white things are pieces of the pump. the water coming out of the motor was very hot. I asked the guy i bought the boat from when the last time the water pump was changed and he said, "what's a water pump?" I should've known better. Thanks

You might disassemble first so you know which kit to get (weather you need gaskets, cup, etc.).

Yep, They'll run in the prop and set up housekeeping in the exhaust chest, or even in a cylinder.

Toughest troubleshooting I've heard of turned out to be a fossilized mouse head stuck in a reed valve.

BTW, a strong hot telltale indicates that some of the normally open water exhaust passages might be plugged. Pump should be OK.
