SUBMERGED 2002 MERCURY 90hp HELP

I have the opportunity to buy (2) 2002 Mercury 90hp really cheap...the only problem, they were on the back of a boat that sunk in salt water...I don't know how long they were under or if there any damage to the motors..But they are so cheap it hard to pass them up...I know salt water can do a great deal of damage to a marine engine if submerged..My biggest concern is the pistons being sized to the cylinder walls... I did a little research and I found a few guys that brought there motors back to life by putting soaking the pistons in diesel fuel for 2 or 3 days and then Marvel Mystery oil for 2 days to free up the cylinders before turning them over... I guess my question would be, would this be evening worth a try... or considering....

How long ago were the motors refloated? If it was before yesterday, I would pass.

They were under saltwater - They are damaged. Most likely the electronics are shot, along with mechanical issues. That's the reason they are cheap. They should be a give away,

Might have some value for scrap metal. I'd give maybe 30 cents a pound.

How much are they paying you to take them off their hands? That is about what they are worth

You would be buying two lower units, the rest is most likely scrap.

My personal opinion. If you are in the mood to totally disassemble every part to the very last nut and bolt, and replace anything everything that is beyond reuse again, then have at it. But thinking you can simply get them moving again and fire them up is not going to happen. They would be better off if they were still in the salt water until you were ready to immediately disassemble them when you pulled them out. The longer they were pulled out of the water, the worst the corrosion will be. The salt doesn't stop just because they are not in the water now. In fact it actually causes more corrosion being out of the water. JMHO!
