I returned Tuesday night from a paddling trip in the Missouri Ozarks. One of the rivers I floated was the Big Piney, which in the nineteenth century had several sawmills along its banks. The operators would cut and mill the abundant pine then raft it down river to St. Louis. As you might imagine there are submerged slabs all over the river bed, so I brought one home for giggles. Now I don't know what I should do with it. Thoughts?
