Maiden voyage went well after the initial dead battery. Ran her till she apparently ran out of fuel. Everything seemed to work, minus the horn and the trim down indicator, which I knew about already.
I'm nearly giddy.
The boy and foster boy enjoyed it.

The dog seemed to as well.

Pull the kids inside the boat, Riding while hanging over the bow is dangerous and illegal in many places. If one happens to fall in the water the chances are very high that you will run over and injure them.

Boating is dangerous enough, please don't add to the danger.

Agreed, but i think he was being towed .

you have the L drive in that thing? I had same boat but not the cuddy. I think it was a 2150. Other than the L drive i loved that boat.

They should still be inside the boat...the tow line could snap, and then...

Concerns noted, thanks gents. We were being towed yes. That was after the fuel ran out. Gauge..... Doesn't work at all. Calm lake and the younger boy was astraddle the upright. They knew that was not going to be a regular thing as well.
Yes it's l drive. Took quite a bit to fix it and get it operational. Neglect and then 9-10 years of sitting exposed.....
But she accelerated well, handled well, most mechanical stuff operated normally.
I'm pretty pleased with myself on getting this going again.
She'll only run on this lake for a few hours.......just to make sure.

cool. again the L drive aside, and mine an open bow, I loved how it handled. I did get some list and that is before I knew about (smart) tabs. Maybe want to look ito those.

It has a starboard list whilst sitting mostly empty. Less underway. It has a whale tail on it. I may take it off and see what happens. I've not read anything bad about smart tabs, so I may very well do that.

Congratulations. A word of warning if you didn't clean the fuel system, tank included, I would make sure to have a good inline fuel filter that is easily replaceable. A cheap plastic one from wally world will suffice. Also if you have a water/fuel seperator be prepared to change it as well. Running the tank empty and then refilling can stir up alot of nasty stuff that can totally gum up your fuel system.

yeah take the tabs off and see what it feels like. Mine was great until a crosswind - thats where the tab would help. It will be a bit slower on plane without the whale tail.

And what tnstrat said - my boat (below) sat for three years and when I got her I cut in an easily replaceable inline filter. Went thru 9 in about 20 hours of running. Run til it bogs, replace, rinse lather and repeat.

I am sure you are very happy with your splash. Congratulations and hope you all enjoy it for years to come. There is nothing better the boating with the boys. Are there plans for any fishing? I get the feeling they would love that. JMHO

The stock filter looked OK, but I didn't investigate real hard. I put gas in it yesterday.... Didn't want to stay running. Killed the battery and then had a cable failure. So now I'm going to go through that system sooner than intended. Oh well.
But I'm going to do the inline filter as well, for sure.
And I ordered a fuel pump kit.

There will definitely be fishing. The young boy is starting to learn casting. At 3&1/2 he's not got a lot of finesse yet. Foster boy is all about it.

takes a minute to get the old gas that has become varnish on the inside of the tank to start to soften / loosen up to the point where it flows. My first few hours were great then next 15 or so {running} hours I went thru another 8 filters.

Well.....it wasn't out of gas. I've got water in cylinders three and four. Head gasket looks fine.
Looks like I'm pulling the engine out enough to get the exhaust mani off.

A very nice ride, I understand the giddy feeling. When I finally got my first real boat all my own for the first week or so my wife would find me looking out the window in the middle of the night giggling like a school boy. She looks to be a Bayliner Cuddy Capri. I think you guys are talking about the Force "L" drive if I'm not mistaken. The first real boat I looked at was a 89'. They weren't the best from that era and was talked out of it but I liked the style and price. New from the dealer was 10K then. Enjoy and get that fuel gauge repaired/replaced. Mine only works when it shows MT. My boat has also had a tow rope sticking out from the bow. It's on my to do list . I know, I know.
