Re: SugarSand Jet Boats

Ultra, you crack me up... :) <br /><br />A couple of points to add:<br /><br />First, Nine people on that boat should NEVER happen, regardless of its rating. 9 people belong on a 30'+ cruiser...<br /><br />Second, if you were even somewhat interested in skiing, the boats performance would be altered in many ways due to such a heavy load: <br /><br /> a. wake shape - the more boat in the water, the more the shape of the natural wake is changed.<br /><br /> b. spray - going into shortline slalom, the amount of weight would SIGNIFICANTLY increase water to the face of the skiier(not to mention below the belt)<br /><br /> c. holeshot/power - 9 people @ approx 140 # each = 1260 - add 8 more skis, boards, food and drink, you're OVER the approved load rating and probably couldn't get a skiier up anyways. I have a 20'5" competition ski boat (the Texas River Rat) and I limit my load to 6 people MAX if we wish to ski at all.<br /><br /> d. tracking - more people/equipment = less ability for the boat to stay on course.... Of course, the light weight nature of this boat will have an effect as well. I am not a big guy at 6'00" and 155#, but I can alter the course of any inboard by the amount of pull i generate. <br /><br />Point is, this boat is not made for skiing, so I hope Pam isn't disappointed upon figuring that out. One pull behind an inboard would open anyone's eyes.

Tx,<br /><br />And we disagree where? "hole shots will be slow" "Load, up to 9 people and gear, it doesn't seem like a lot of skiing will be hapnin"<br /><br />A little tact though would go a lomg way. Pam already owns the boat and if she doesn’t now know its limitations she will. All boats have their limitations.<br /><br />I had made the point this boat is not a ski boat but there are a lot of nice things to be said about this boat, which was my second point.<br /><br /> ;)

Hey Ultra, I wasn't disagreeing with you, just adding commentary. However, Pam originally just asked for our comments, which is what we all provided. Being an avid skiier, I thought I would point out more specific info about where it would lack.

Pam<br />After spending a full summer with the 240 hp Sugar Sand I can tell you 1-the performance<br />numbers are a little inflated Tops at 45 MPH<br />2-This is a very safe boat to drive at 45 mph you can grab the wheel and yank all it will do is spinout ontop of the water(done this many,Many times) all in all its a fun little boat

You guys think I am nuts or something?? No one in their right mind would think of loading up a boat with 9 people and all their gear and then trying to ski off of it. The versitility I am talking about is that you can go out with alot of people on the water and be comfortable, unlike other jet boats. Or.....we can go out with our family (4) and wakeboard and ski. I don't even think you are looking at the right boat because their is no "fresh water shower". WE DONT WANT A PROP BOAT...Been there, done that. Plus once you hit a sunken barge and ruin your prop, it sours you. We left a deposit on the boat, will buy pending the outcome of us taking it for a test drive when the lakes melt. Will let you know what top speed is because that is what we are interested in, and also how many seconds to plane. Also for your information the weight limit is 1300 lbs. (or 1500, I can't rememeber) divide it up, that is 8 - 162lb. people..... there are seats for 9 people, so don't tell me nine people wont fit on this boat, the potential is there to take out alot of people on the water to picnic, hang out and sunbath. I also understand you can't load up a boat with people and gear and expect to go like a bat out of hell, it's only common sense. Pam

Pam,<br /><br />The info you see mentioned is from the Sugarsand web site noted in one of the posts on this thread. Shower, weight, # of people... They must list all options for the 240 (or what ever model) and not note they are just options so it appears they are standard equip.<br /><br />It's a very nice boat and as many of us mentioned comfortable and safe. Enjoy your boat this summer. The reason there are thousands of different styles and layouts of boats is because there are that many opinions of what is the perfect boat.<br /><br />Enjoy ;)
