suggestions for boat flooring

Well here I am, with the wife enjoying possibly the last 80+ day of the year. I can't help but bounce around ideas for my flooring project next spring. I am currently standing on marine plywood with carpet in my 1995 Rinker 212 OB. I have a few problem areas that include soft spots in the wood, thin, worn areas in the carpet etc. I am wondering if anyone has any ideas on other flooring for this type of boat. I have seen durakot etc. Thanks.

Deck or sole, Trooper. Boats don't have floors.

I've got a couple bad spots, mostly under the rear seat where everyone gets in wet. Considering redoing it with 1/2in aluminum honeycomb-really strong and light weight.

Thanks for the reply. Ill consider it. Im glad you were able to understand that I was actually talking about the DECK of my boat. Im glad you weren't thrown by the whole word "floor". Sheesh.

check this out http://www.deckadencemarineflooring.com/oem.html its interesting stuff, i know it looks like carpet but it is like a brillow pad but real soft plastic. not sure on the cost? they will send you samples in the mail in differant colors. thats odd they call it "flooring"?

ehhh how about some ACX plywood coated with epoxy or glassed with poly resin and some mat? If you do the poly and mat you can gelcoat it and it will look awesome! Or you can use
HYDROTURF!
or vinyl flooring like Ezmobee did. He loves that stuff and I think it looks damn good.

Carpet type materials absorb and hold water, and is the reason you have soft spots in your plydecking. You should really consider a deck covering that will shed water instead of absorbing it. The paint-on types are an option that some people prefer to go with, and some people really like it. Marine vinyl is another option, and the one I chose. It looks great and is waterproof.

You should slip on a pair of Depends before you open and read that price quote... I'm thinking $1000 worth won't even be enough to cover your boat, may be enough for a nice throw rug for it though.

uh.......lets just back up here .....just for a second.......

we are talking about soft spots in the deck.....

to the op........you cannot just cover up soft spots with a new chunk of wood and paint it......you will condemn the boat with in two years.

the old rotted wood needs to come up.......then we are talking about foam/stringer/transom core samples......IF those are good......then we need new decking...glassed ply will last 20 years with minimal care....then if you like carpet.....a good snap on will work....

but you are really putting the cart before the horse....

my suggestion?.....start wearing the depends now......and rip your deck so you will have the winter to work on it.

this post is not ment to be harsh.....but you have more issues to think about than just materials

Perhaps I was not completely clear in my first post so I'll do it here. I AM FULLY AWARE THAT I WILL NEED TO COMPLETELY RIP THE OLD MARINE PLYWOOD OUT BEFORE INSTALLING ANYTHING NEW. And yes, I know this will be expensive. I Also know that a stringer and foam inspection was in order. My question was NOT "what material can I use to fix / cover up the soft spots or rotten areas in my existing plywood?". I wanted to get some ideas from other members on what type of materials I could use for the final finish.

I watched an extremely thorough video series on YouTube put together by Friscoboater. He details how he replaced stringers, deck and foam. I learned a few tips from him and he answered a few of my questions. His finished products looked great. I have ordered samples of the "decadence" marine flooring, marine vinyl flooring, and some other stuff called hydro turf. We'll see what looks the best and is most cost effective.

Im excited to get my samples in. And yeah I would definitely say that 9.50. A yard is pretty darn reasonable! The stuff in the link you sent looks great too. I would say the water shedding quality is paramount for us. We tube and ski a ton plus we have two spoiled rotten dogs that love to get in and out of the water via the ramp I built them.

Yeah, the vinyl would be ideal for you. Defender has the best prices and great service too. I got mine from them.
